Binmaley Rural Improvement Club

Binmaley Rural Improvement Club (BRIC) is a food (milkfish) processing business. Milagros Buenafe, president of Binmaley, originally intended their livelihood project to encourage her fellow mothers to be productive, instead of spending their time playing card games like tong-its. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Department of Science and Technology offered the women technical and equipment assistance such as the smoking chamber, coolers, rolling trays, and others needed for sanitary fish processing. The Department of Trade and Industry provided them with training on simple bookkeeping, product labeling, packaging, and entrepreneurship.

At present, the group processes and markets a variety of bangus products like boneless, tocino, shanghai, imbutido, relleno, kilawin, tinapa, nuggets, siomai, fishball, and sisig. Their products are sold in Laguna, Antipolo, Baguio, Palawan, Tuguegarao, and also in Metro Manila. The group also now has 60 members, and trainers are sent to different towns which request training on fish processing for women there.
