Marcel Trading Corporation was established in 1969 and started its business exporting various sea products. Marcel added dried seaweeds to its range of exports in 1971. In 1977, they had also diversified into carrageenan processing, using Kappaphycus Alvarezii (Eucheuma Cottonii) and Eucheuma Denticulatum (Eucheuma Spinosum) as the main raw materials for producing Kappa and Iota Carrageenan. By implementing strict quality control and good value, the company was able to establish strong supply relationships with many Carrageenan processors worldwide. The company helped in providing the livelihood for farmers and contribute to the economic growth of seaweed farming in the Philippines.
